  • Induction
    2008
  • Sport(s)
    Football, Track & Field
Athlete 1972 - 1976

Toby Robillard, from the class of 1976, established a record that has withstood the sands of time.

A two-sport athlete in track & field and football, Robillard continues to hold the record for longest shot put. More than 30 years after his graduation from Linfield, his shot put of 54 feet, 3 inches still ranks atop the track and field record board.

Lightly regarded in the sport of track and field before Robillard's arrival, Linfield went on to win three straight Northwest Conference titles under Coach John Knight.

Robillard enjoyed a productive career. Not only did he set the leading standard in the shot put, he remains sixth all-time at Linfield in discus, throwing 154 feet, 1 inch.

On the football field, he lettered twice for Coach Ad Rutschman, playing tight end and working as the team's punter. In 1974, he recorded the second-highest single-game punting average of 50.3 yards against Lewis & Clark.

At Centralia High School, he participated in football, basketball and track before matriculating to Linfield. His shot put record at CHS also still stands, nearly 40 years after his graduation.

After earning his college degree, he worked in the construction and insurance business before joining the Navy in 1983. He spent 20 years on active duty and is now a member of the fleet reserve.
With fewer than 1,000 students enrolled, Robillard enjoyed Linfield's small-school atmosphere. He met his future wife, Kimberly (Hall) 76 while both were undergraduates.

The Robillards have three grown children. Oldest son Philip (28) works for the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), another son, Marc (23), is a senior at Virginia Tech majoring in mechanical Engineering and daughter Celeste (21) is a senior majoring in finance at Radford University.
