A two-time track and field All-American and four-year letterwinner, Merry (Upshaw) Irwin placed sixth in the 800-meter run as junior at the 1994 NAIA Championships. A year later, she claimed the Northwest Conference title in the 800 and went on to set the still-standing Linfield record of 2:12.83 at the NAIA championship meet, placing fifth.
