Athlete 1995 - 1998
With three Northwest Conference titles, a trio of all-America citations and a still-standing program record to her name, Tiffany (Duff) Goldwyn of the Class of 1998 is among the most decorated track & field athletes in Linfield history.
And that’s some fine company to be included among. Joining six former teammates into the Linfield Athletics Hall of Fame, Goldwyn earns her place among Linfield’s all-time bests after sharing in Linfield’s most successful track & field years. From 1995-98, the Wildcat women registered one conference team championship, one of just two in program history, and three runner-up efforts while achieving three Top-20 team finishes at the national level.
Individually, Goldwyn was a three-event star, competing in the high hurdles and the horizontal jumps. But her signature event was the triple jump.
Competing in her first league championship as a freshman in 1995, Goldwyn contributed a runner-up finish in the triple jump, a third-place effort in the long jump and also made the finals in the 100-meter hurdles.
Nineteen ninety-six, the year Goldwyn won her first individual conference title, was the same season the Wildcats won the team championship, a first for the Linfield women since 1977. In addition to the first of three straight conference crowns in the triple jump, leading the Wildcats to a 1-2 sweep in that event, Goldwyn also added third-place points in the long jump and fifth-place performance in the 100 hurdles as the Wildcats defeated rival Pacific Lutheran by 19 1/3 points.
Goldwyn also gained her first national meet exposure that year. She traveled with the 17-member Linfield contingent to Marietta, Ga. Undaunted by the highest level of competition she’d experienced yet as a collegian, Goldwyn reached the finals, placing ninth.
In addition to qualifying for her first NAIA Indoor Championships, where she placed seventh in the long jump, Goldwyn repeated as outdoor league triple jump champion in 1997, setting a new meet record at 38 feet, 10½ inches. She also was runner-up in the long jump and placed fourth in the hurdles.
Goldwyn qualified for the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in both jumps that season, and came through with her first all-America performance in the long jump, placing third. She also reached the finals of the triple jump, though her eighth-place effort was two positions away from a second all-America honor.
Saving her best for last, Goldwyn achieved two all-America citations and a third consecutive conference title as a senior.
In defending her triple jump crown, she also broke her own meet and school record in the triple jump, leaping an all-time-best 39 feet, ½ inch (11.90 meters) and defeating the runner-up by a whole foot.
Despite being away from campus during January Term, Goldwyn qualified for her second indoor national meet, placing fifth for her first indoor All-America citation.
She repeated as a two-event qualifier for the NAIA outdoor championships, placing 10th in the long jump and fifth in the triple jump, earning all-America honors in the latter. Competing in Tulsa, Okla., she helped the Wildcats attain their third consecutive Top 20 and highest team finish at the national meet (14th).
In all, Goldwyn achieved 12 top-eight conference finishes and three NAIA All-America citations in five appearances at the national meet. She still holds the school record in the triple jump – by nearly two feet – and also ranks third in the long jump, just 3¼ inches behind former teammate and fellow Hall of Fame member Marci (Warnecke) Cammann.
Dr. Goldwyn, as she is now known, graduated from Oregon Health Sciences University in 2002 and practices dentistry in southwest Portland. She has served with Operation Smiles on dental missions to Panama and Ecuador, and in her post-jumping days has continued running, participating in the region’s many 200-mile relays and completing one full marathon. She and her husband, David, have two children: Zach and Lilly.
