Athlete 1980 - 1984
Julie Morgan, representing the Class of 1984, is easily considered one of the best women’s basketball players in Linfield history.
The 5-foot-9-inch forward burst onto the scene as a freshman, averaging an incredible 20.4 points per game. She broke the Linfield single-game scoring record, tallying 35 points against Southern Oregon. Her 571 points during the 1980-81 season far and away exceeded the old single-season scoring record of 334.
That year, the Wildcats finished second in the league and advanced to the Northwest College Women's Sports Association Regional playoffs. Morgan was an first team all-league selection and was also named the NCWSA first team.
Over the next two seasons, Morgan would again lead the Wildcats in scoring, averaging 13.1 and 15.3 points, respectively. She earned all-conference first team honors for a second time as a sophomore.
Former Wildcats coach Robin Brown had this to say about the star at the end of her junior season: “Julie Morgan is a super player. She is an all-around player, one that every coach dreams of having.”
A four-year starter, Morgan graduated as Linfield’s career scoring leader with 1,192 points, a standard that was eventually surpassed by her teammate and Hall of Fame inductee Tina (Rappin) Hill.
Today, Morgan still ranks among the top five in 12 different statistical categories at Linfield, including career scoring average (16.6), season points scored (571) and season scoring average (20.4).
Morgan went into the medical field after graduation and is currently the lead MRI technologist at Tuality Healthcare in Hillsboro. She lives in Forest Grove with her partner of 11 years, Pam Sprague. They have three grown children and a five-year-old granddaughter.
