Dave Freundschuh, from the class of 1982, set a school record in the 100-meter dash has stood for 27 years giving him a strong claim to being the fastest student-athlete in Linfield school history.

Freundschuh's best time from the spring of 1980, a hand-time of 10.3 seconds, converts to a fully-automatic time of 10.54. He ran that to win the Northwest Conference championship that year, as a sophomore. And he went on to reach the semifinals of the national championship meet in Abilene, Texas.

Today, it remains not only the Linfield school record, but the Northwest Conference record as well.

You never know how long something like that will last, Freundschuh said.

Freundschuh, who came to Linfield from Damien Memorial High School in Honolulu, Hawaii, was a three-time conference champion in the 200 meters and a two-time conference champion in the 100. He was also a two-time district champion in the 100 and 200. In 1980 he was the District 2 track athlete of the year.

He held the Linfield record in the 200, 21.84 seconds. That record has since been surpassed and Freundschuh currently ranks fifth in school history in that event.

Following graduation from Linfield, Freundschuh (pronounced Friend-shoo) enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard and has risen to the rank of Master Chief. He has recently relocated to Chesapeake, Va. He is single.
