Landis, Worthington score in double figures against Wolves

COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. – The Linfield women's basketball team opened a three-game week with a 65-44 loss to Walla Walla Tuesday night at Windemuth Court.
 
The Wildcats went up 15-14 after one quarter of action but scored just seven points in the second period to go into the break down 30-22. The 'Cats were held to just four points in the third quarter, going 0 for 10 from the field but making four free throws. They finished the game with their best scoring quarter of the night, dropping 18 points, but the Wolves also went off with 21 points of their own.
 
Gillyan Landis picked up right where she left off last year, scoring a team-high 15 points and grabbing eight rebounds in her first start of the 2022-23 season. She made 5 of 11 from the field and 5 of 6 from the free throw line. Jordan Worthington also left her mark on the game in double digits, scoring 10 points off the bench and matching Landis' eight rebounds while adding two assists. Worthington was a 33.3 percent shooter from the field and nailed 4 of 5 free throws.
 
Rowan Cusack contributed seven points and three rebounds while Eve Burke and Janessa Yniguez had four rebounds apiece. The 'Cats struggled to find success behind the three-point line, with Riley Cusack and Peyton Bergevin making two of the team's 21 attempts.
 
Walla Walla led by as much as 26 points at the 3:09 mark in the fourth quarter. The Wolves connected on 46.3 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from beyond the arc while scoring 34 points in the paint.
 
The Wolves didn't have any bench points in the contest, but three scorers more than made up for it. Jay Casem went off for 25 points on 9 of 20 shooting with four threes and three free throws. She added three assists, two rebounds, two steals and a block to her performance. Chariah Daniels registered a double-double of 17 points and 13 rebounds to go with four steals and a pair of assists. Pau Quintana also scored in double digits with 16 points on 50 percent shooting.
 
NEXT
The 'Cats (0-2) will end the week at the Ken Schumann Classic in Forest Grove. They will play against Oglethorpe on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Pacific University's Stoller Center before hosting Caltech on Sunday at Ted Wilson Gymnasium. Tipoff against the Beavers is also set for 2 p.m.
