Linfield stumps Oglethorpe 66-54 for first win of season

FOREST GROVE, Ore. – Linfield trailed by one at halftime, but the Wildcats outscored Oglethorpe by 13 points in the second half to pick up their first victory of the season, a 66-54 contest Saturday afternoon at the Ken Schumann Classic, hosted by Pacific University at the Stoller Center.
 
Linfield shot 42.9 percent from the field, led by a 22-point third quarter on 56.3 percent shooting with three three-pointers. The Linfield bench scored 31 points. The Wildcats scored 32 points in the paint and 21 points off as many Oglethorpe turnovers. The 'Cats held the Stormy Petrels to nine points in the third quarter. The Petrels were just 1 of 12 in the period and scored seven points off free throws.
 
Gillyan Landis' double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds led the Linfield effort. She connected on 6 of 9 from the field, including a three-pointer, and was a perfect 3 for 3 from the free throw line. The honorable mention All-NWC selection in 2021 also added two assists and two blocks.
 
Rowan Cusack dropped a season-high 12 points with two buckets from beyond the arc. She registered four rebounds, two assists, a block and three steals in 28 minutes. Jordan Worthington turned in another solid performance from the bench. She did it all, finishing the game with nine points, two rebounds, four assists and three steals. Ella Koebelin matched Cusack's two three-pointers to contribute eight points.
 
The Petrels made 85 percent of their free throws, six coming from Keimarya Rivera, who dropped a game-high 20 points on 7 of 15 shooting to go with five rebounds, two blocks and a steal. Mia Geveke just finished under double digits with nine points while Gabby Hudson, Morgan Skipper and Adrianna Atkinson all led the team with six rebounds.

The 'Cats (1-2) end the week at home, hosting Caltech at 2 p.m. Sunday at Ted Wilson Gymnasium.
