WHY LINFIELD? I stepped onto campus and I knew it was the school for me. Everywhere I went I met nice people and the campus itself is so beautiful. I also love the small-town feel, but there is still so much to do in McMinnville! My new team was also a big reason. Out of all the schools I looked at for basketball, the girls on this team were the ones I felt most comfortable and welcomed by. The Starbucks on campus was a big selling point as well. Linfield definitely feels like a home away from home and that is the best way I would describe it.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A STUDENT-ATHLETE AT LINFIELD? Through all the ups and downs I've experienced throughout my basketball career, playing in college has always been a dream of mine since I picked up a ball. Being in this position now, I can truly say that the hard work paid off. I would not be here today if it wasn't for persevering through adversity and it makes me so proud that I get to wear Linfield across my chest on the court. Not to mention that I have the privilege of being able to play with a very talented and hard-working group of women!
WHAT MAKES YOU INTERESTING AS A STUDENT-ATHLETE? A big thing that I think makes me a unique player on the court is that I am a taller guard which helps me to be more versatile on the court. Players often don't expect me to be a shooter, but it also comes in handy grabbing rebounds.
WHAT IS NEXT AFTER LINFIELD? Linfield has an amazing business and marketing program, and the connections that the school has is great to help students find jobs and internships. Eventually, I wanted to look into one of the internships that they have with Nike. Not many schools have their own Marketing major, and that was another big selling point as to why I chose the school. There also seems to be a lot of hands-on activities and workshops that students who major in marketing get to participate in, which is great to prepare for a real-world setting.
WHAT IS THE BEST CLASS YOU’VE TAKEN AT LINFIELD? My favorite Linfield class so far has been Marketing with Professor Nelson. It was a lot of work, but it really helped me narrow down where I wanted to be after college. I was also able to build real-life skills like creating my personal brand and practicing being interviewed.
WHO HAS BEEN THE GREATEST INSPIRATION IN YOUR LIFE? WHY HAS HE OR SHE BEEN SO INFLUENTIAL? All the women in my family are a huge inspiration to me. They have all taught me to be fiercely independent and to not be afraid to go after what you want.
THE GREATEST PRINCIPLE OR LESSON THAT I’VE LEARNED WHILE COMPETING IN ATHLETICS AT LINFIELD HAS BEEN... Focus on the things you can control. Especially with our COVID season last year, we had to take each day as it came and be able to focus on having a positive attitude and working hard every chance that we got.
AS A LINFIELD STUDENT-ATHLETE, MY GOALS INDIVIDUALLY AND COLLECTIVELY FOR MY TEAM ARE... Be the person that I once looked up to when I was an underclassman. I was lucky enough to have many upperclassmen that I admired in my early years here, but now I want to set the example and be someone that my teammates know they can talk to about anything.
WHEN NOT COMPETING IN SPORTS OR STUDYING FOR SCHOOL, I LIKE TO SPEND MY FREE TIME… Going to the beach or the lake, hiking, reading and watching movies or Netflix.
THE GREATEST LESSON THAT I’VE LEARNED WHILE COMPETING IN ATHLETICS AT LINFIELD HAS BEEN… Every day might not be perfect, but every day you are making progress.
WHAT HAS BEEN THE HIGHLIGHT OF YOUR LINFIELD CAREER THUS FAR? The highlight of my Linfield athletic career was beating Pacific at home freshman year.
