NEWBERG, Ore. –
Ella Koebelin's 14 points lifted Linfield to the 54-49 victory over George Fox on Wednesday night at the Wheeler Sports Center. The Wildcats' victory in Newberg is their first road win over the Bruins since the 2006-07 season.
Miki Vermeulen nearly tallied a double-double with nine points and 12 rebounds.
Eve Burke also added nine points.
Allison Mead and
Jordan Roberts combined for 11 points off the bench. Linfield shot 34 percent on 50 attempts and knocked down 5-16 shots from behind the arc. The 'Cats finished with a 16-5 bench points advantage.
Erin Yoshitake led the Bruins with 15 points while teammate Alyssa Wells (12) also finished in double figures. George Fox (2-12, 2-5 NWC) shot 30 percent from the field on 55 shot attempts and made 4-11 threes. The Bruins out-rebounded the 'Cats 41-36.
Burke was responsible for seven of the Wildcats' first 15 points, as Linfield held a six-point lead at the end of the opening period. The 'Cats started the second quarter 0-8 from the field while George Fox returned to even the score at 15. Linfield closed the second quarter on a 9-4 scoring run to hold a 26-19 lead at halftime.
George Fox outscored Linfield by eight in the third quarter to take a 38-37 lead going into the fourth. The Wildcats totaled their highest amount of points in the fourth quarter with 17, including going 10-12 on free throw attempts to hold onto their fourth Northwest Conference win.
