McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Linfield is at .500 on the season after a 53-45 win over Caltech Sunday at Ted Wilson Gymnasium. The Wildcat bench stepped up, combining for 33 points.
The win followed Saturday's 66-54 win over Oglethorpe at the Ken Schumann Classic in Forest Grove. The Wildcats finished the week 2-1, suffering a 65-44 loss at Walla Walla on Tuesday.
Linfield held Caltech under 25 percent shooting in the first and second quarters. The Wildcats allowed just seven points in the first period and took a 26-18 lead into the break. The Beavers weren't going home without a fight, but the 'Cats scored 17 points in the fourth quarter to preserve the lead.
Freshmen Miki Vermeulen and Eve Burke led the Wildcats with 11 points apiece off the bench. Burke pulled down four rebounds. Both players connected on 4 of 5 of their shots, Burke adding three field goals from three-point range.
Jordan Worthington made 4 of 9 from the field on her way to finishing with nine points and three rebounds.
Gillyan Landis just missed a double-double with eight points and 10 rebounds to go with two blocks.
Caltech shot 26.6 percent from the field, 15.8 percent from beyond the arc and 57.1 percent from the free throw line. Kathryn Edwards (12) and Faith Pinney (11) led the Beavers offensively in double figures. Edwards tacked on three rebounds and three steals while Pinney had two rebounds.

Linfield (2-2) has an even .500 record for the first time since the 2019-20 season. The 'Cats open Northwest Conference play against cross-county rival George Fox on Dec. 2. But before that, they will host Redlands on Black Friday. Tipoff with the Bulldogs is set for 5 p.m. at TWG.
