TACOMA, Wash. – Puget Sound notched the equalizer in the fourth quarter, but
Abby Ross scored the game-winning goal in double overtime to lead Linfield lacrosse to a 13-12 win over the Loggers Wednesday night at Baker Stadium.
Linfield scored the last four goals of the opening quarter and the first goal of the second period to take an early 5-2 lead. The Wildcats went into halftime up 8-7 over the Loggers, a team they lost to 17-11 on the first match of the season on February 26.
The 'Cats were leading 11-8 after three quarters, but a four-goal fourth quarter for the Loggers evened the score at 12-12 after regulation. Hannah Bushing scored the game-tying goal for Puget Sound with 4:30 left on the clock off an assist by Jenna Kisner. It was Bushing's only goal of the evening.
After a scoreless overtime period, Ross hit the game-winner at the 2:45 mark in double overtime. Ross,
Bethany Shade and
Amelia Wright all had hat tricks for the 'Cats. Shade also dished out an assist and collected four ground balls and three caused turnovers.
Elena Kroll led the team with a season-high six ground balls.
Puget Sound had 26 turnovers while Linfield had 17. Phoebe Crowther took the loss in goal for the Loggers after making six saves before allowing the game-winner. Despite not recording a save,
Lizzy Harms played the entire match in goal for the 'Cats to earn her seventh win of the season and sixth straight. She lowered her goals against average to 11.33.

Linfield improved to 7-4 overall and an even 3-3 in Northwest Conference play. Winners of six straight matches, the 'Cats continue the week against George Fox at 1 p.m. Saturday in Newberg. The last meeting between the Yamhill County rivals ended in a 20-10 victory for the Bruins in McMinnville.
