McMINNVILLE, Ore. – The first win of the season is always the hardest to get, and Linfield lacrosse left no doubt in a 17-4 rout of Pacific Saturday afternoon at the Linfield Lacrosse and Soccer Complex.
The Wildcats came out strong, scoring the first four goals of the match and going up 6-1 after the first quarter. They racked up seven more goals in the second quarter while again holding the Boxers to just one goal in the period to go up 13-2 at the break. The 'Cats outscored the Boxers 4-2 in the second half to win by 13. They went streaking again in the middle stages of the match, scoring the final five goals of the opening half and the first three goals of the third quarter.
Linfield fired off 42 shots, 31 on goal, while limiting Pacific to just eight total shots. The 'Cats forced 13 turnovers to go with 24 ground balls and 17 draw controls. They tallied 25 of their 42 shots in the first half, which included 17 in the first quarter.
Maya Wright led Linfield in the scoring department with five goals to go with an assist. She led the team with nine shots and seven shots on goal.
Bethany Shade and
Amelia Wright each scored four goals while
Maia Rezoski had three. Wright, Rezoski and
Abby Ross each dished out a pair of assists. Ross also led the 'Cats with nine draw controls.
Hyland Cullen-Musengo scored two of Pacific's goals while Vivian Mai and Katrina Boyd had one goal apiece. Cullen-Musengo finished with five shots, four on goal, with five draw controls.
Both goalkeepers played the entire 60 minutes. Pacific's Amelia Haindl made 14 saves in the loss while Linfield's
Lizzy Harms made two saves in her first win of the season.
