McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Sophomore
Abby Ross registered seven goals, but the Linfield lacrosse team fell 17-11 in its season opener against Puget Sound Saturday afternoon at the Linfield Lacrosse and Soccer Complex.
Ross fired off 11 shots. All seven of her shots on goal found the net. Seniors
Maia Rezoski and
Josie Duey and freshmen
Maya Wright and
Amelia Wright each scored a goal. The two Wrights tallied four shots apiece, all on goal.
The Wildcats outscored UPS 4-3 in the fourth quarter, but a combined 11 goals for the Loggers in the second and third quarters proved to be the difference. The Loggers outshot the 'Cats 28-26 with 24 shots on goal.
Emily LaRiviere finished tied with Ross for the match high with seven goals on eight shots, all on goal. Milan Lam tallied four goals on six shots on goal while Abby Stranahan had three goals. The Loggers opened their season with a win and will take on George Fox on March 2 in Tacoma.
Olivia Almy played the entire match in goal for the Loggers, making 10 saves to earn the win. Freshman
Caity Babcock got the start in goal for the 'Cats and made six saves while sophomore
Lizzy Harms entered the match off the bench.

The 'Cats will look to bounce back from their season-opening loss. They will continue their four-match homestand on March 6, hosting cross-county rival George Fox at 1 p.m.
