Wildcats end season with loss to Bearcats on Senior Night

McMINNVILLE, Ore. – The Linfield women's basketball team ended its season with a 71-54 loss to Willamette Saturday night at Ted Wilson Gymnasium. Saturday marked Senior Night for the Wildcats as they honored Ti'Anna Bruce, Brooke Landis and Maggie Smith.
 
Willamette took a 41-26 lead into the break and never looked back, outscoring Linfield 30-28 in the second half to secure the 17-point victory on the Wildcats home court. The Bearcats shot 47.3 percent from the field, highlighted by 61.5 percent shooting in the second quarter.
 
Megan River dropped a game-high 19 points on 8 of 11 shooting. She also grabbed five rebounds and dished out four assists. Amanda Carpenter just missed a double-double with 18 points and nine rebounds while CarolAnn Edwards also scored in double figures with 10 points.
 
The Wildcats connected on 41.7 percent from the field, led by an 8 for 12 performance in the third quarter. They scored 34 points in the paint and received 34 points from the bench.
 
Junior forward Jordan Worthington and freshman guard Emma Schmerbach led the charge off the bench. Worthington scored a career-high 16 points, surpassing her previous top mark of 14 points scored against Occidental on Nov. 15. She went 6 for 7 from the field and 4 for 5 from the free throw line. Schmerbach went 6 for 7 from the field and finished with three rebounds and two assists. Junior forward Alexis Heald contributed nine points and four rebounds.
 
The Wildcats finished their 2021-22 season at 1-23 overall and 1-15 in NWC play. Their lone win of the season came in a 62-59 win over Whitworth on Feb. 4.
