Wildcats grab set No. 2 in loss to Loggers

McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Linfield handled Puget Sound in the second set, but the Loggers got the last laugh in a 3-1 win over the Wildcats Saturday night at Ted Wilson Gymnasium.
 
The Loggers won by scores of 25-13, 17-25, 25-13 and 25-18. They finished with 40 kills on a .231 hitting percentage to go with 13 aces and nine blocks, holding Linfield to a .057 hitting percentage.
 
Abigail Nelson led all players with 12 kills on 35 attempts. Avery Allemann and Katelyn Chekian finished with eight kills apiece. Chekian was tied for the team lead with Chloe Akiona-Bannan with 12 digs. Sarah Johnsen racked up six blocks in the win.
 
Kara Thomas registered nine kills to lead the 'Cats. It tied her season high, set against Willamette on Sept. 16. Her .280 hitting percentage is also a season high in qualified matches.
 
Marina Erosa ended the evening with eight kills while Ellie Mead added seven. Mead had four blocks in her first match since Sept. 20. Paige Richards had a match-high 17 digs while Aylea Dixon had 27 assists.
 
NEXT  
The 'Cats (6-7, 2-4 NWC) will be on the road for their next five matches, starting in Eastern Washington next week. They play at Whitman on Friday and at Whitworth on Saturday with both matches starting at 7 p.m.
 
The team will return home on Oct. 22 to host George Fox in the second round of NWC play. That night also marks Nursing School Matriculation Night, where the program will honor the players that will be moving on to Linfield's nursing campus in Portland.
