TACOMA, Wash. - A tough course, including five temporary greens due to fungus, hampered the Wildcats in a second-place finish at the Puget Sound Invitational Friday afternoon at Fircrest Golf Club. Linfield finished behind Puget Sound, the only other scoring team in the four-team tournament.Brynn Hurdus was fourth individually after shooting a 91 for the second round. Sophie Corr and Brittany Johnston both finished with matching 93s, while Meghan Crowder carded a 97. Katie Kilborn scored a 98 for the second round.Puget Sound took top honors with a team total of 711. Linfield totaled 740. Willamette and Pacific Lutheran, without the minimum number of players, did not score for the tournament. Puget Sound had three golfers score among the top five, including medalist Natalie Nakamine, and third-place finisher Sarah Bicker. Willamette’s Whitney Ueno, the tournament’s leading heading into the second round, dropped back to second place while Hurdus was fourth.“Finishing second was a bit disappointing after a fairly good start (Thursday),†said Wildcats coach Karly Cramer. “However, I did see continued improvement from each individual on the team. We just aren't putting all the pieces together in a round to score as low as we know is possible. The conditions were much better (Friday) even though we had over a three-hour frost delay. The course played very long for the women as it was wet and the greens weren't in their normal playing condition.â€NEXT: The Wildcats head to North Plains, Ore., March 14-15 for the Pacific Invitational.
