FOREST GROVE, Ore. - Linfield finished in fifth place after the final round of play at the Pacific Invitation at the Quail Valley Golf Course Sunday afternoon. Brynn Hurdus led the Wildcats and finished in 10th individually.
Placing 10th overall, Linfield’s Brynn Hurdus shot a two-round score of 177, one stroke ahead of teammate Brittany Johnston. Fellow Wildcats Katie Kilborn finished with a 188 and Sophie Corr carded a 196.
Mandy Cameron of George Fox took medalist honors for the tournament with a final total of 156, four strokes ahead of Northwest Christian’s Ashley King. A two-way tie for third saw teammates Sarah Askin and Brianna Nap of George Fox deadlocked at 162. Kelsey Morrison of George Fox and UC-Santa Cruz’s Halley Sutton were tied for fifth with 166.
George Fox was the resounding winner with a team score 60 strokes better than runner-up Pacific. UC-Santa Cruz finished third as a team at 716, 10 strokes ahead of Northwest Christian. Linfield was fifth at 735, followed by Corban at 872 and Willamette at 880. On Sunday, the Wildcats trimmed 21 strokes from their first-day score of 378.
“The improvement from the first day to the second was extraordinary. This being our first tournament of the spring, it wasn’t too unusual to see scores that were higher than we would like,” said Wildcats coach Karly Cramer. “It gives us an indication of what we need to focus on over the next month in order to prepare for the Spring Classic.”
