TACOMA, Wash. - The Linfield Wildcats faced a tough opponent Sunday afternoon in the Pacific Lutheran Lutes, suffering a 5-0 defeat in a Northwest Conference matchup at East Field.
The Lutes took control early, scoring in the 21st minute when Owen Bliskis found the back of the net on a shot from the top of the box. Pacific Lutheran (3-1-2, 1-0-1 NWC) continued to apply pressure throughout the first half, adding another goal before the break to take a 2-0 lead into halftime.
Linfield (1-7-0, 0-4 NWC) struggled to gain offensive momentum, managing eight shots in the match.
Sid Kosaris took three shots while
E.J. Sablan and
Evan Stafford fired off two of their own.
Ross Vargo also took a shot which was on goal.
Despite solid efforts from goalkeepers
Colby Reese and
Jacob Toves, who split playing time and combined for six saves, the Lutes proved too much for the Wildcats.
In the second half, Pacific Lutheran added three more goals to seal the victory. Christian Pineda Lane scored in the 56th minute, while Mike Murega netted another goal off an assist from Connor O'Brien in the 77
th minute.
