SPOKANE, Wash. – Three double-digit scorers led Whitworth over Linfield 69-54 at the Whitworth Fieldhouse on Friday night.
Gillyan Landis led the Wildcats with 14 points while
Eve Burke finished close behind with 13.
Amelia Solt added nine points while
Ella Koebelin chipped in five while grabbing a team-high nine rebounds. Linfield shot 37 percent from the field on 53 attempts and made 3-15 shots from behind the arc. Linfield outscored Whitworth 32-22 in paint points.
Zalissa Sanfo paced the Pirates with 14 points and grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds to tally a double-double. Kimberly Dewey totaled 13 points while Mya Edwards added 10. Whitworth (7-15, 4-9 NWC) shot 33 percent on 65 attempts and made 6-22 three-point attempts. The Loggers scored 33 points off 27 Wildcat turnovers. Sanfo also accounted for six of the Pirates' 10 total blocks.
Both teams had hot shooting starts in the first quarter. The Wildcats and Pirates each shot 50 percent from the field and from three with the only difference being a Whitworth three-point lead by the end of the period. Each side cooled off in the second quarter as Whitworth increased its lead going into halftime, 37-28.
Linfield outshot Whitworth by over 20 percent in the third quarter, however, the teams ended the period with 12 points each and the Pirates continued to hold a nine-point lead. The 'Cats clawed back within six on multiple occasions in the final quarter but could never crawl closer as the Pirates finished the game on an 8-0 scoring run to complete the season sweep.
