McMINNVILLE, Ore. – the fall semester may have come to a close already, but the Linfield basketball season is just getting started the Wildcats extended their best start to a season in program history to 8-0 on Saturday night, beating Warner Pacific 75-38 in Ted Wilson Gymnasium.
As a team Linfield shot 12-of-23 from the behind the arc, showing why it leads the Northwest Conference in three-point percentage. The Wildcats outrebounded the Knights 44-29 and dominated in the paint, outscoring Warner Pacific 30-10.
The game started in a tight battle with neither team able to pull ahead, leading to a 16-16 tie at the end of the first quarter. Linfield then used a 15-0 run in the second quarter to take a comfortable 35-23 halftime lead.
The Wildcats came out of the locker room on fire, hitting five three-pointers in the third period alone. The hot shooting along with a suffocating defense ballooned the Linfield lead to 32 at the start of the final quarter. The fourth quarter was more of the same for the Wildcats, allowing just 10 points by the Knights and closing the game on a 6-0 run to win 75-38.
Eve Burke continued her stellar play with a team-high 14 points on four three-pointers and 10 rebounds for her second double-double on the young season.
Amelia Solt nailed three three-pointers of her own in the contest, totaling 13 points.
Gillyan Landis and
Allie Mead each contributed 12 points with Landis adding eight rebounds and Mead tallying two assists and two steals.
Miki Vermeulen showcased her all-around abilities, racking up seven points to go along with 11 rebounds and six assists.
Tana Hoekema maintained the solid start to her freshman season with seven points and four rebounds.
For the Knights, Amalya Sales was the sole player in double figures with 11 points while Alex Saunders and Skylar Groesbeck contributed eight and six points respectively.

Linfield is back in action on Sunday afternoon against Bushnell in Ted Wilson Gymnasium where they will look to go 9-0 before heading into the new year.
