LA VERNE, Calif. – Linfield (0-1-2) matched host La Verne (3-0-0) shot for shot, but the Leopards converted their opportunities earning the 3-0 win on Friday night in La Verne, Calif., at Ortmayer Stadium.
Three of the nine Wildcats' shots landed on goal.
Cameron Gaines and
Sam Haynes provided most of the Linfield offensive punch with the duo combining for two shots on goal and four shots.
Adan Villarreal entered the match with four goals and added two more to his season tally with both coming in the first half for La Verne. Villarreal's two goals punctuated a strong first half for the Leopards as they fired eight total shots and three corner kicks.
The Wildcats stepped up their offensive attack in the second half, outshooting the Leopards 8-1. However, the one shot La Verne's Damian Lira-Martinez fired in the period found the back of the net in the 66th minute solidifying the lead.
Haynes and
Evan Stafford played 80 or more minutes for the Wildcats, with
Angel Hernandez leading the way by playing all 90 minutes. Goalkeeper
Dylan Watkins tallied one save.
