KIRKLAND, Wash. – Linfield needed all 40 minutes to top Northwest 64-60 on Saturday afternoon at the Kristi Brodin Pavilion.
Eve Burke led the charge with 17 points followed closely by
Gillyan Landis' 13.
Janessa Yniguez and
Ella Koebelin each added nine points while
Allison Mead chipped in eight points off the bench. The 'Cats shot 42 percent on 52 attempts and knocked down 4-19 shots from behind the arc. Linfield finished with a 26-4 advantage in points in the paint.
Alli VanKooten led Northwest with 18 points while teammate Maya DuChesne also finished in double figures with 10. The Eagles shot 37 percent from the field on 59 attempts and made 3-11 threes. Northwest forced 19 Linfield turnovers and outscored the Wildcats bench 27-14.
The Eagles jumped out to a 14-10 first-quarter lead. Northwest (1-10) continued to hold the lead going into halftime up 28-23, taking advantage of 16 Linfield turnovers. Northwest's VanKooten led all scorers with nine points at the break while Mead led Linfield with eight.
The Wildcats trimmed the Eagles lead down slightly in the third quarter but were still down 38-37 going into the fourth. Linfield outscored Northwest by 27-22 in the final period, including an 11-7 scoring run in the final two and a half minutes to close out the win.
