Wolves top Wildcats in overtime

MONMOUTH, Ore. – Linfield couldn't come out on top in its second consecutive overtime game against Western Oregon on Monday night at the New PE Building. Eve Burke's 17 points weren't enough in a 73-65 loss to the Wolves as the Wildcats' four-game win streak came to a close.
 
Gillyan Landis finished with 15 points and seven rebounds while Ella Koebelin also finished in double figures with 10 points. Miki Vermeulen tallied a near double-double with eight points and 10 rebounds and Amelia Solt also added eight points. The Wildcats shot 40 percent on 59 attempts and knocked down 6-16 shots from behind the arc.
 
Bella Pedrojetti finished a game-high 26 points while Cali McClave added 15. Kiylynn Dawkins (13) and Ana McClave (12) also finished in double figures for the Wolves. The Wolves shot 34 from the field on 67 attempts and made 7-17 threes. Western Oregon (6-5, 1-1 GNAC) finished with a 45-38 rebounding advantage.
 
Solt's buzzer-beater to close the first quarter gave the Wildcats a 14-9 lead at the end of the period. Western Oregon trimmed the Linfield lead in the second quarter after shooting 46 percent compared to 21 percent in the first. The 'Cats shot 50 in the second quarter to hold a 28-25 lead at halftime. Burke and Solt paced the scoring with eight points each.
 
Western Oregon outscored Linfield 21-14 in the third quarter to pull ahead 46-42 going into the fourth. The Wildcats erased a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit to force overtime. Koebelin tied the game at 58 with less than five seconds left. In overtime, the Wolves outscored the Wildcats 15-7 and shot 66 percent to cement the win.
