NEWBERG, Ore. –
Cameron Gaines took one shot and made it count, leading the Linfield Wildcats to their first Northwest Conference victory of the season, a 1-0 shutout of cross-county rival George Fox Saturday afternoon at the Bruins' Austin Sports Complex.
Gaines logged 67 minutes in his seventh start of the season. He scored his first collegiate goal in the 16
th minute off a header that bounced off the turf and connected with the top-right corner of the net. He was assisted by
Sid Kosaris' cross.
George Fox held the advantage in shots (8-4) and corner kicks (4-3). There were a combined 26 fouls in the match, 17 called on the Wildcats. Head official Lucas Brooks put up a stellar statline, issuing 11 yellow cards and a red. Seven of those 12 cards were given to the Bruins.
The Wildcats finished with four shots and three shots on goal. Along with Gaines' goal, Kosaris,
Seamus Miller and
Ronan Hodge registered the other shots.
Logan Clizer,
Angel Hernandez,
Evan Stafford and
Nicholas Reggiani all played the full 90 minutes.
Henry Boudreaux earned his first win of the season in goal, picking up a shutout with three saves in 90 minutes played. He's now 1-2-1 with 14 saves and a 2.22 goals against average.

The 'Cats improved to 2-5-1 overall and 1-1-1 in NWC play, already surpassing their win totals from 2021. They will look to go back-to-back on Sunday when they host Pacific at 2:30 p.m. at the Linfield Soccer and Lacrosse Complex.
Linfield Athletics will be giving away free Dutch Bros Catzone Crew T-shirts to the first 75 Linfield students who attend Sunday's soccer doubleheader. The women's match will precede the men's match at noon. Students are encouraged to wear the shirts during the matches and cheer on the 'Cats.
