McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Multiple records were broken as Linfield lacrosse went out in style with a lopsided 29-8 win Thursday night at the Linfield Lacrosse and Soccer Complex.
The contest was a make-up for a match on April 2 that was postponed due to health and safety protocols. Whitman played a woman down the entire match with just 11 players on the field, but the Blues hung in there to keep it competitive.
Linfield rattled off 29 goals on 54 shots, both of which set new program single-match records. The 29 goals surpassed the previous top mark of 27, set just five days ago against the same Blues team. The record-setting 28th goal was fired in by
Gemmajean Patterson. It was the senior defender's first goal of the season. The 54 Wildcat shots surpassed the previous record of 52, set back in 2007. Their 38 points and 26 draw controls also broke school records.
Linfield scored 17 goals in the first half thanks to a 12-goal second quarter. The 'Cats took a 17-6 lead and already started a running clock before halftime. They went on a 7-0 run during the second and third quarters and capped the match off by scoring the last 10 goals of the evening.
Abby Ross tied her season high with seven goals to go with an assist, 13 shots, two ground balls and five draw controls.
Bethany Shade scored five goals and dished out four assists. She also had 15 draw controls and eight caused turnovers, tying a Linfield single-match record that she accomplished three other times this season, including on Sunday against Whitworth.
Amelia Wright,
Maia Rezoski and
Josie Duey all notched four goals while
Maya Wright had a hat trick and caused three turnovers.
Madeleine Sherry and Erin Magnuson led the Whitman attack with three goals apiece while Gracie Maulik had two goals on seven shots to go with an assist and eight draw controls.
Linfield finished the 2022 season at 12-5 overall and 8-4 in Northwest Conference play, good enough for third in the conference standings. The 12 wins are also the most in school history since the Wildcats became a full-time NCAA program in 2007.
