PORTLAND, Ore. –
Kira Hawaaboo repeated as women's long jump champion, topping the list of first-day results for the Linfield Wildcats Saturday at the Northwest Conference Track and Field Championships. Featuring all nine NWC schools, the meet, was staged at Griswold Stadium and Eldon Fix Track and hosted by Lewis & Clark College.
After seven events at the NWC Championships, the Linfield women sit in third place with 31.5 points. Linfield's men are tied for eighth place with two points.
WOMEN
Hawaaboo's best leap came on her first attempt when she sailed 19 feet, 1¼ inches. Though it was short of her school record of 19-6½, it still bettered the next closest competitor by nearly a full foot.
Hawaaboo also recorded a new personal records in the semifinals of the 100- and 200-meter dashes, placing third in the 100 in 12.30 seconds and third in the 200 in 25.47. Late Saturday, Hawaaboo also placed third in the javelin, tossing the spear a personal-best 130-0.
The only other final for the women on Saturday came in the pole vault, where freshman
Analissa Paresa soared 11-1 to claim third place. First-year athlete
Teslin Brannan was 10
th with a mark of 9-1½.
Paige Kasso was sixth 100 and also qualified for the finals.
Rachelle Silis turned in a season-best mark in the semis of the 400 dash, clocking 57.75 to place fourth and qualify for Sunday's finals. The senior from McMinnville also placed sixth in the 200 with a season-best mark of 25.90, good for sixth place and a spot in the finals as well.
MEN
Top performances for the men on Saturday included
Jacob Tabares' fourth-place result in the 200 dash semifinals (22.20),
Conner Dooley's PR and fourth-place showing in the preliminaries of the 800 run (1:54.88).
Liam Christensen (10.95) and
Charles Dayton (11.03) each qualified for the finals in the 100 dash, placing fifth and seventh, respectively.
Final results from Saturday included
Alex Oathout placing ninth in the 10,000 run in 31.33.02.
