FOREST GROVE, Ore. - Led by explosive performances from
Savannah Irwin and
Gabby Crist, the Linfield Wildcats overwhelmed Pacific 23-2 in their first Northwest Conference match of the season Wednesday evening at Hanson Stadium.
Irwin tallied a game-high 11 points on five goals and six assists to power Linfield to its first conference win. Crist matched Irwin with five goals of her own, including a shorthanded strike in the second quarter, and added an assist while controlling a team-high eight draws.
Linfield dominated from the opening draw, jumping out to a 6-1 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. The Wildcats outshot the Boxers 32-3 and held a 28-2 advantage in shots on goal. Linfield also forced 26 turnovers and successfully cleared all six of its attempts.
Nine different Wildcats found the back of the net.
Maya Wright recorded four goals and added five draw controls, despite receiving two green cards.
Madison De La Trinidad scored three times and assisted another, while
Maizri Chandler chipped in with two goals and three assists.
Evelyn Cross notched a goal and two assists, and
Mackenzie Kulick,
Emma Baker and
Grayce Miller each added goals in the rout.
Pacific scored once in the first and third quarters. Abigail Boyer tallied the Boxers' first goal on a man-up opportunity, assisted by Jasmyn Zimmerman. Cameron Cabuco added Pacific's only other goal in the third period.
Jocelyn Taylor played the entire 60 minutes in goal for Pacific, finishing with five saves. Linfield split time in the cage between
Tenley Hodge and
Caity Babcock, who each allowed one goal on limited chances.
