Linfield enjoys final tuneup before conference meet

PORTLAND, Ore. – Weather conditions could not have been more ideal for Linfield athletes competing Friday and Saturday at the Larry Byerly Invitational, hosted by Lewis & Clark College at venerable Griswold Stadium. The meet marked the final tuneup prior to next weekend's Northwest Conference Championships.
 
The Wildcats enjoyed numerous season-best marks and new personal records at the meet, which featured 25 collegiate programs in additional to over a dozen random club organizations.
 
MEN
Nick Olsen was runner-up in the shot put, heaving the steel ball 49-6¼. Olsen also placed 10th in the hammer with a mark of 142-1 and recorded a new best effort in the discus of 122-0.
 
Jacob Tabares sprinted to a 21.91 finish in the 200-meter dash, placing fourth overall in a crowded field of 71 challengers.
 
Devin Harrison recorded a new personal-best time in the 1,500 run, crossing the finish line in 4:05.17, good for 28th place.
 
WOMEN
Jordan Roberts achieved a new personal-record time in the 100-meter hurdles, clocking 15.26 seconds on the way to a sixth-place finish.
 
Rachelle Silis enjoyed a season-best showing in the 100 dash, placing 10th in 12.83. Silis was also ninth in the 200 dash in 26.24.
 
Freshman Natalia Freimuth ran to a third-place finish in the 400 hurdles in a personal-record time of 1:08.84.
 
In the field events, Logan Roberts logged a season-best mark of 5 feet, 0¼ inches in the high jump to claim fourth place. Brianna Richardson established a new PR in the pole vault with a mark of 8-2.
 
COMING UP
Linfield returns to L&C's Griswold Stadium this coming Saturday and Sunday for the Northwest Conference Championships. The Linfield men are seeking to improve upon last season's fourth-place team finish. Led by hepatathlete Kira Hawaaboo, the Wildcat women hope to elevate from their 2024 fifth-place showing.
