McMINNVILLE, Ore. - The Linfield Wildcats delivered a commanding performance on Sunday afternoon, defeating the Puget Sound Loggers 18-3 at the Linfield Lacrosse Complex. With this win, Linfield improved to 3-2 on the season, while UPS fell to 2-2.
The Wildcats set the tone early, scoring 10 goals in the first quarter alone.
Savannah Irwin led the charge with five goals, while
Mackenzie Kulick added four.
Gabby Crist was a key playmaker, contributing three goals and five assists while also making a defensive impact with five cause turnovers.
Maya Wright also had a standout game, netting three goals and providing one assist.
Linfield's offense was relentless, outshooting UPS 32-11. The Wildcats' defense was equally impressive, forcing 20 turnovers and holding the Loggers to just three goals.
Tenley Hodge, Linfield's goalkeeper, made five saves and allowed only three goals in the win.
The first quarter saw Linfield explode to a 10-1 lead. Crist opened the scoring just 32 seconds into the game, followed by two quick goals from Kulick. The Loggers briefly responded with a goal from Cat Schilli, but Linfield continued to dominate, with Irwin and Crist each adding multiple goals in the period.
The second quarter saw more of the same, with Linfield extending their lead to 14-2 by halftime. Kulick and Irwin each added another goal, while Crist continued to facilitate the offense, logging a goal and an assist in the period. Puget Sound managed a goal from Michaela Chen, but the Loggers struggled to generate consistent offense against Linfield's stifling defense.
In the second half, Linfield maintained control, adding two goals in the third quarter and two more in the fourth as the Wildcats attempted to wind down the clock. Wright and Irwin each scored in the final period, capping off a dominant performance. Amity Humphrey scored Puget Sound's lone goal in the second half.
Defensively, Linfield was led by
Grayce Miller, who caused a turnover and grabbed four ground balls. The Wildcats' ability to clear the ball efficiently (4-for-4) and win draw controls (16-8) proved to be the difference maker.
