TACOMA, Wash. --- Linfield women's soccer (5-2-4, 3-2-2 NWC) fell in the second game of the road trip to Washington State, coming up short, 2-0, at Pacific Lutheran (4-2-4, 4-0-2 NWC).
Pacific Lutheran opened the scoring late in the first half, capitalizing on a corner sequence in the 43rd minute. The Lutes had controlled much of the possession in the early stages, earning six corner kicks and putting pressure on the Lute back line through midfield play led by
Mia Curtaz and Lena Caballero-Uhtoff. The Wildcats managed seven shots before halftime, with Curtaz forcing a pair of saves and
Julia Alvarez driving another on-goal.
In the second half, Linfield continued to push forward, but the Lutes doubled their lead in the 63rd minute in a counter opportunity.. From there, Linfield kept attacking and created five more shot attempts, three of which were on target, but the Lutes goalkeeper turned away every look.
Alexa Fritz anchored the Wildcat defense with five saves, including four in the second half, as Linfield fended off 14 total shots from the Lutes. Defenders
Reese Jones and
Jenna Stanley played the full 90 minutes, keeping the Wildcats organized in the back, while
Ruby Lacktrup and
Fia Swanson were active in the midfield.
Linfield ended the match with 12 shots, six of them on frame, and held a 9-5 advantage in corner kicks, underscoring their offensive persistence. The result moves Linfield to 5-2-4 overall and 3-2-2 in Northwest Conference play.
Women's soccer returns to the pitch next Saturday against George Fox at home, before heading to Portland to take on Lewis & Clark on Sunday at Noon.
