Women's soccer blanks George Fox on Homecoming

MCMINNVILLE, Ore.. --- Women's soccer (6-2-4, 4-2-2 NWC) snapped a two game skid on Saturday, cruising to a 2-0 win over the George Fox Bruins (0-6-6, 4-2-2, 0-5-4 NWC) on Homecoming.

Linfield set the tone early, controlling tempo and keeping the Bruins pinned deep in their defensive half. The Wildcats created several strong chances in the opening 30 minutes, highlighted by efforts from Jocelyn Jacobs and Ruby Lacktrup that forced early saves from the George Fox goalkeeper.

The breakthrough came in the 45th minute, freshman midfielder Lena Caballero Uhtoff found the back of the net after receiving a pass from Lize Rendon. The finish marked Caballero Uhtoff's third goal of the season and gave Linfield a 1-0 lead in the final seconds of the half.

The Wildcats wasted little time adding to their advantage after the restart. In the 68th minute, junior forward Kamahie Samudio extended the lead to 2-0, slotting home her first goal of the season off of a deflected shot, earning an assist for Caballero Uhtoff. The combination play between the two attackers punctuated a period of sustained Linfield pressure that produced nine second-half shots

George Fox tried to respond but rarely broke through Linfield's organized defense. The Bruins managed just six total shots and three on goal for the afternoon. Goalkeeper Alexa Fritz handled each of them, recording three saves to earn her conference-best fifth shutout of the year.

Caballero Uhtoff led the Wildcats with two points with a goal and an assist, while Rendon and Samudio each contributed to the scoring line. Mia Curtaz and Lacktrup continued their strong play in midfield. Reese Jones, Jenna Stanley, and Marley Ells anchored a back line that limited the Bruins to only two corner kicks and kept pressure off Fritz throughout the match.

The 'Cats hit the road, travelling to Portland, Oregon, for tomorrow's weekend finale at Lewis & Clark at Noon.
