WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Whitman led from nearly start to finish in a 16-6 Northwest Conference victory over visiting Linfield on Sunday afternoon at James Hayner Field.
Mackenzie Kulick and
Maizri Chandler led the offensive effort with two goals each.
Savannah Irwin and
Maya Wright combined for the other two Linfield goals. Kulick finished with a team-high three ground balls while
Gabby Crist caused two turnovers. Whitman (9-4, 5-4 NWC) outshot Linfield 37-19.
Tenley Hodge totaled five saves.
Lindsey Pasena-Littlesky led the Blues with five goals while teammate Madeleine Sherry added four. Teagan Huff, Andrea Garcia and Sherry each scooped up two ground balls. Gracie Maulik, Pasena-Littlesky and Huff caused two turnovers each for Whitman. The Blues' two goalies only combined for three saves.
Whitman scored the opening goal of the game before Linfield scored the next two to hold the only lead of the game. The Blues ripped off six goals in a row to hold a 7-2 lead with seven minutes remaining in the half. Whitman added three more scores while Linfield added on as the Blues led 10-3 at halftime.
The Blues held the 'Cats scoreless in the third quarter before ultimately pulling away in the fourth quarter with five goals. Linfield scored three total goals in the second half.
