McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Linfield's offense was held in check in an 11-7 loss to Whitworth on Saturday afternoon at the Linfield Lacrosse Complex.
Gabby Crist and
Mackenzie Kulick each tied for the team lead in goals with two.
Also scoring for Linfield were
Madison De La Trinidad,
Star Pfleiger and
Maya Wright. Linfield and Whitworth finished even in shots at 25 a piece.
Tenley Hodge tallied nine saves. Only two players were shown a yellow or green card while Whitworth was shown a card on nine occasions.
Sierra Witte, Campbell Vincent and Megan Whitman each led the Pirates offense with two goals. Sage Fosnock totaled eight saves and was credited with the win.
Linfield scored the first goal of the match, but Whitworth scored the next four to grab a 4-1 lead by the end of the first period. The 'Cats added one more goal in the second quarter while the Pirates added two to hold a 6-2 lead at halftime.
Linfield only scored one more goal in the third quarter as Whitworth (4-0, 1-0 NWC) again increased its lead. The Wildcats had a late flurry in the fourth quarter outscoring the Pirates 4-2 but the margin was too great for Linfield to pull back even.
