McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Visiting Illinois Wesleyan led wire to wire in a 22-13 victory over Linfield at the Linfield Lacrosse Complex on Tuesday night.
Gabby Crist led the Wildcats in goals (5), assists (2) and ground balls (6).
Madison De La Trinidad and
Maya Wright combined for six goals with
Leah Stednick and
Mackenzie Kulick each added a goal.
Tenley Hodge tallied 10 saves. Linfield was carded on six occasions. The Wildcats and Titans finished tied in clears with 14 a piece.
Mia Fiandaca led the Titans with seven goals while Avery Setzler (5) and Devon Hanson (4) were right behind. Britney Maldonado finished with a game high 17 points which included 14 total assists. Bri Kiser totaled seven saves. Illinois Wesleyan (3-2) ended with a 25-14 advantage in draw controls.
Illinois Wesleyan surged to an early lead. The Titans scored five goals in the first four minutes. The Wildcats clawed back to within three by the end of the first quarter only down 9-6. Illinois Wesleyan outscored Linfield 4-3 in the second quarter to hold a 13-9 at halftime.
Each side scored two goals in the third quarter. The Titans continued to hold a four-goal lead going into the final period. Illinois Wesleyan opened up its largest lead of the day in the fourth quarter. The Titans led 21-13 with under five minutes remaining before closing out the victory. The Wildcats were held scoreless in the final frame.
