McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Linfield and Whitman needed more than 60 minutes to find a winner on Friday night at the Linfield Lacrosse Complex. The Wildcats and Blues combined for 35 goals with the difference being a Whitman goal in overtime to give the visitors the 18-17 victory.
Leah Stednick led the 'Cats offense with five goals.
The Wildcats outshot the Blues 38-34 in a blistering offensive game. Behind Stednick was
Maizri Chandler and
Mackenzie Kulick each with three goals.
Tenley Hodge tallied nine saves. Linfield was shown a yellow or green card on 11 occasions while Whitman was carded six times.
Madeleine Sherry set a new Northwest Conference season high with 10 solo goals while adding two assists. Korin Wheaton earned the win and tallied eight saves. The Blues finished with a 21-17 advantage in draw controls.
The 'Cats and Blues started on strong offensive paces early on and didn't look back. Whitman carried a one-goal lead at the end of the first period until Linfield pulled ahead slightly at the end of the first half 11-10.
In the second half, Linfield's late flurry in the final seven and a half minutes brought the game even at 17 before heading into overtime. The Wildcats held for the last shot but couldn't break through. In overtime, Izzy Eggerling's goal with the assist coming from Sherry lifted the Blues (4-0, 1-0 NWC) to victory.
