Linfield outlasts Chapman for 70-65 victory

ORANGE, Calif. - In a thrilling SCIAC Classic contest, Linfield emerged victorious over Chapman with a 70-65 win in Orange, California, improving to a 2-0 record to open the season. After a slow start, the Wildcats dominated the second half to secure the win.
 
Linfield struggled in the second quarter, managing just 11 points in the period. However, they ignited a powerful 39-point second-half to clinch the game. The Wildcats shot 57.8% from the field, making 26 of 45 attempts, including 5 of 12 from beyond the arc. From the free-throw line, they were 13 of 18, converting at a 72.2% rate.
 
Gillyan Landis led the charge for Linfield, recording a game-high 21 points. Landis also contributed 6 rebounds, and added an assist in 35 minutes of play. Amelia Solt and Eve Burke contributed to the scoring effort with 15 and 14 points respectively. Allie Mead was the fourth Wildcat to notch double digit points with 11 on 5-of-11 shooting. Madison Barter played a career-high 31 minutes and three rebounds to go along with one steal on the defensive end.
 
On the boards, Linfield dominated, outrebounding Chapman 33-22. The Wildcats collected 6 offensive rebounds, giving them extra opportunities on offense. Defensively, they were active, with 7 steals and 1 block, led by Landis who tallied the lone block for Linfield.
 
The game remained close throughout, with Chapman staying within striking distance, led by Shanna Brown who poured in 27 points. However, the Wildcats' defensive pressure and efficient shooting in the second half allowed them to hold on for the win. Linfield also outscored Chapman in the paint, 38-16, and had 18 fast-break points, proving to be effective in transition.
