McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Linfield pitchers
Tayah Kelley,
Hailey Wadsworth and
Tyler Warden combined to hold Whitworth scoreless during a Northwest Conference doubleheader sweep Friday afternoon at Del Smith Stadium.
The 11th-ranked Wildcats blanked the Pirates 5-0 in the opener before recording an 8-0 shutout in a six-inning nightcap. Whitworth was limited to just three hits in each game.
GAME 1: Linfield 5, Whitworth 0
Tayah Kelley spun a three-hitter in the circle, and
Kamryn Mobley and
Emma Podliska each drove in a pair of runs to pace the Wildcats to the shutout victory in the opener.
Kelley struck out nine Pirates and issued no walks on the way to her eighth win of the season.
The Wildcats scored all their runs in the opening two frames. Linfield plated two runs in the first inning on Mobley's single to right field. The hosts then added three more tallies in the second on Podliska's two-run single to right field and
Claire Seats' run-scoring single to left-center.
Pirates starter Corinne Vasiloff (6-5) went pitched the entire game. She allowed eight hits and four walks to the Wildcats while striking out two batters.
Linfield totaled eight hits in the contest.
GAME 2: Linfield 8, Whitworth 0, 6 innings
Linfield piled up 12 hits on a trio of Whitworth pitchers on the way to the run-rule shortened nightcap.
Katie Phillips and
Brynn Nelson both drove in two runs and Seats and
Katrina Johns contributed two hits. Ten different Wildcats registered hits in the game, including doubles by Mobley and
Abi Proffitt.
Wildcats starter
Hailey Wadsworth (3-1) struck out three and allowed two walks but gave up six walks. After the Pirates loaded the bases on Wadsworth in the fourth,
Tyler Warden came in to record the third out on the inning and preserve the shutout.
Vasiloff took the loss for Whitworth. She surrendered nine hits and seven runs in her 2 2/3 innings of action.
