Wildcats fall to Pirates, look ahead to Blues

SPOKANE, Wash. – Linfield conceded an early goal in the second half and couldn't score the equalizer as Whitworth won 1-0 Saturday afternoon at the Whitworth Soccer Field.

The lone goal for the Pirates was fired off the boot of Kendall Sharp in the 49th minute. It was her first goal of the season, assisted by Savannah Acpal and Emma Foulk. Sharp connected with the bottom left corner of the net with a sliding kick following back-to-back passes from her teammates.

Linfield registered seven shots compared to Whitworth's 10. Two of the Wildcats' shots were on goal while four came in the second half. Emily Hyde led the 'Cats with three shots in just 28 minutes off the bench. Sidra Griffin added two shots and a shot on goal while Janae Lewis had the team's other shot on goal.

Three Linfield freshmen stayed on the pitch for the entire 90 minutes. Bella Hanna and Jenna Stanley anchored the Wildcat backline while Alexa Fritz made four saves in goal. Fritz is 3-2-3 in her freshman campaign with 49 saves, an .845 save percentage and a 1.13 goals against average.
