McMINNVILLE, Ore. –
Aedan Carroll scored his first collegiate goal as Linfield fell 3-1 to Whitman Sunday afternoon at the Linfield Soccer and Lacrosse Complex.
The freshman Carroll notched the Wildcats' lone goal of the match in the 59
th minute. His header was assisted by
Ryan Johnson's free kick from outside the box. Carroll had two shots while
Sid Kosaris finished tied for the match-high with three shots.
Whitman scored twice in the span of just over two minutes. Christian Gomez scored the opening goal in the 23
rd minute. Sawyer Valero notched a goal of his own in the 25
th, assisted by Zachary Stonier. It was Valero's fourth goal of the season.
Up by one goal with seconds remaining, the Blues put the match on ice when Riley Kraft scored his first goal of the year at the 89:44 mark. Linfield goalkeeper
Henry Boudreaux was trying to clear the ball to the Wildcats' attacking side of the pitch. Kraft blocked Boudreaux's kick, sending the ball back toward Linfield's goal. Kraft got loose and darted toward the net for an easy tap-in.
The Blues outshot the 'Cats 18-7 with nine shots on goal. They applied the pressure in the first half, sending 12 shots in the period. Linfield had two corner kicks to Whitman's six. The 'Cats didn't get a corner kick opportunity until 39 minutes into the match. There were a combined 36 fouls called in the match, 23 against the Blues.
Six Linfield players saw 80 minutes of action or more. Boudreaux,
Ryan Johnson and
Nicholas Reggiani all played the full 90 minutes while Kosaris and
Sam Haynes logged 85.
Marques Herrera-Kuehn was on the pitch for 84 minutes. Boudreaux made six saves in the loss.

The 'Cats (4-9-1, 3-5-1 NWC) will be split next week, playing at Pacific at 7 p.m. Friday. They will take Saturday off before returning home to host George Fox at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
