Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Green's game-winner secures first win of season

McMINNVILLE, Ore. – The Linfield women's soccer team was less than three minutes away from going to overtime with Warner Pacific, but Laney Green had other plans.

The junior forward scored the game-winning goal in the 88th minute off an assist by freshman defender Kamahie Samudio to lift the Wildcats to their first win of the season. Samudio crossed the ball to set up a header for Green that found the top-left corner of the net.

Green led the 'Cats with four shots and two shots on goal in 65 minutes. Samudio's assist was the first of her collegiate career as she stepped up to play some key minutes.

The match was scoreless going into halftime. It wasn't until the 69th minute that Linfield senior defender Ashley Guldager notched her third career goal and her first of the season off an assist by sophomore midfielder Riley Omonaka. The last time Guldager scored a goal prior to Friday's match was on Sept. 29, 2019, in a home conference match against Lewis & Clark.

Moments later, Ciel McDonald evened the score as she sailed the ball over the head of Linfield senior goalkeeper Alyssa Bakkensen for the Knights' first and only goal of the match.

The Linfield youth showed up to play against the Knights. Sophomore Ellie Friedrichsen (60 minutes) and freshmen Kami Echiverri (79 minutes), Sidra Griffin (58 minutes) and Samudio (60 minutes) all received significant playing time.

The 'Cats outshot the Knights 20-10 with nine shots on goal while limiting the Knights to just four shots on goal. Bakkensen picked up her first win of the season in goal, making three saves along the way.
