Linfield scores 20 against George Fox in two wins

NEWBERG, Ore. – Scoring 20 runs in the two games against their Yamhill County counterparts, the Linfield Wildcats swept the doubleheader over the George Fox Bruins by scores of 14-2 and 6-1, respectively, on Friday at the Morse Athletic Fields. Linfield has now won four straight games.  
 
The Wildcats took the first game in eight innings via the 10-run rule and improve to 10-22 on the season and 8-16 in Northwest Conference games. The Bruins falls to 16-17 overall and 11-14 in the NWC.
 
Jackson Horner had six hits for the Wildcats, while Andrew Del Biaggio and Grant Knox were the two winning pitchers. Levi Horner-Villa and Tanner Jacques hit home runs in the game.
 
GAME 1: Linfield 14, George Fox 2
The Wildcats' first run of the game came in the second. Horner led off the inning with a single and Garrett Moen moved him to second via a bunt. Horner scored on a double to right center by Jacques.
 
George Fox tied the game in the third on a single by Matthew Sebolsky that scored Leon Johnson III, who got on base via a double. Linfield scored two in the fifth on a double by Horner-Villa, that plated Brett Joner, who got on base safely via a single and Wyatt Smith, who reached on an error.
 
Linfield batted around in the sixth, scoring four runs on six hits. Horner tripled with one out and scored on a double by Garrett Moen, who scored on a double by Jacques, who came around to touch home plate on a double by Brett Joner.
 
With a runner at third and two outs, Reid Sturn came into the game as a pinch hitter and delivered a single up the middle and plated Joner and make it 6-1.
 
Three more runs came for the 'Cats in the seventh on four hits. Seven batters came at the plate in the inning. The inning started with a single by Bodey Smith, Horner followed with a single, Smith moved to third on the play due to a throwing error.
 
Moen squeezed a bunt to first, scoring Smith and moving Horner to second. Jacques hit a single to make it runners in the corners. Joner laid another bunt and plated Horner. Jacques scored on a double to right field by Wyatt Smith.
 
The first two batters got on base in the bottom of the seventh for the Bruins on a double by Emery Miller and a single by Brandon King. Miller scored on a single by Spencer Roos. With runners on first and second with one out, Linfield coach Dan Spencer brought in relief pitcher Jarrett Allen, who got two quick outs to strand the runners.
 
Linfield plated four in the top of the eighth. The first run was scored by Horner-Villa on a single by Horner. Moen drew a walk with Horner on base and both of them scored on a three-run home run by Jacques.
 
Allen got the final three outs in the bottom of the eighth to give Linfield the win via the 10-run rule.
 
Del Biaggio started the game for Linfield, he gave up two runs in 6.1 innings on six strike outs and picked up his second win of the season. Allen pitched the last 1.2 innings, giving up no walks or hits.
 
Horner went 5 for 5 in the game, scoring four runs. Jacques went 4 for 5, driving in five. Horner-Villa collected three hits and Joner collected two.
 
Sebolsky was the lone George Fox batter with two hits or more. The starting pitcher for the Bruins, Christopher Stone, gave up four earned runs on six hits. He got the loss. The Bruins used four more pitchers in the game, who gave up seven earned runs combined.
 
GAME 2: Linfield 4, George Fox 0
Horner-Villa scored the first run in game two on a solo home run to left in the first. The 'Cats scored three more in the second.
 
Tanner Earhart started the inning with a single, Horner followed with another single and Jacques drew a walk to load the bases with no outs. Joner brought home Earhart on a sacrifice fly, while Horner and Jacques scored on a double by Wyatt Smith.
 
Linfield loaded the bases with no outs in the fifth, thanks to singles by Wyatt Smith and Daniel Kahn, Horner-Villa drew a walk. Mike LaVigne drove in Smith on a single and Kahn scored on a double play by Earhart.
 
Connor Smith hit a solo home run in the fifth that hit the fence and went over in left.
 
The Wildcats went with Knox as the starting pitcher in game two, he gave up one run on six hits, one strike out and no walks in four innings. Knox left two-runners on base for Skyler Manelski in the fifth. Manelski got the three outs without surrendering a run.
 
Callan McRae and Colton Meyer also pitched for the Wildcats, the two gave up no runs in 1.2 innings combined. Wyatt Smith collected two hits in game two and also drove in two, LaVigne had two hits as well.
 
Sean Wise got credited with the loss for the Bruins, he gave up four runs in four innings on three strikeouts. Austin Hallman was George Fox's best relief pitcher in game two, he pitched a shutout 1.2 innings, allowing just one walk and no hits.
 
Connor Smith went 3 for 3 in game two, being the only Bruin to cross home plate. Cutter Kitson had two hits as well.
 
UP NEXT
The two teams conclude the season series at the Morse Athletic Fields on Monday at 12 noon. The original Saturday-Sunday schedule for the series has been adjusted to accommodate commencement at both schools.
