Linfield comes from behind to down Willamette

MCMINNVILLE, Ore. – Trailing 9-6 at halftime, the Linfield Wildcats went on an 8-1 run in the second half to beat the Willamette Bearcats, 15-13 at the Linfield Soccer and Lacrosse Field Complex on Saturday afternoon.
 
Linfield has won five straight and improves to 5-2 on the 2021 spring season. The Bearcats are 2-3 in conference play and 3-3 overall.
 
Trailing at the half, Jenna Hessel scored the first goal for the Wildcats in the second half on an assist from Emma Vande Brake, Willamette served back with a goal from Maddie Garcia.
 
A goal from Josie Duey on an assist from Bethany Shade started a 7-0 run for the Wildcats, to retake the lead which they did not give back. Catie Kawamura and Garcia scored for the Bearcats to make 15-13.
 
Shade had 11 points in the match, five goals and six assists. Rezoski, Duey and Robbins had two goals each. Duey and Rezoski had two assists as well. Hessel had four goals. Shade caused three turnovers and picked up nine groundballs.
 
Rezoski collected three groundballs as did Madison Hicks and Ellena Kroll. Goalkeeper Epi Roldan-Rayo made nine saves and collected five groundballs. Shade won 12 draw controls, Rezoski won 4.
 
Garcia led the Bearcats with six goals, Anabel Ohsman had three goals and an assist. Catie Kawamura had two goals. Laura Kelly had four assists. Analise Wilson collected seven groundballs.
 
Shelby Sawyer played the first half in goal for Willamette and came back in the second in relief of Katie Hill, who played just over 20 minutes. Sawyer made eight saves and gave up eight goals, Hill gave up seven and saved three. Analise Wilson and Nina Hernandez caused three turnovers each.
 
Linfield remains undefeated all-time against Willamette, winning all three meetings.
 
UP NEXT
The Wildcats and Bearcats end the season series on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Linfield Soccer and Lacrosse Complex. Prior to the match, a ceremony will be held to honor graduating seniors Jenna Hessel, Madison Hicks and Epi Roldan-Rayo.
