Leroux delivers the match-winner for the 'Cats

PORTLAND, Ore. – Freshman Jill Leroux delivered the second match-winner of her young career in the Linfield Wildcats' 1-0 win over the Lewis & Clark Pioneers on a calm Wednesday night at Griswold Stadium.

The Wildcats have won six of the seven matches in Northwest Conference play this season and currently have the fewest losses among any Oregon conference schools. The Pioneers drop to 2-2-1 on the season.

Linfield committed seven fouls in the first half and Lewis & Clark was charged with three in the first 45 minutes, which were scoreless. Both teams had three fouls each in the second half.

Lewis & Clark had the 5-2 edge in shots in the first half. Kristen Burke and Emma Sammartino had the two shots for the Wildcats in the first half, Breckly Beighle led the Pios with two, one of them went on goal and was saved by Madi Reimer.

Linfield took the 1-0 lead in the 61st minute on a goal by Jill Leroux, her second of the season. Her first goal also came in a 1-0 win, against Pacific on February 7.

Michayla Sponsel had her third assist of the season on the goal and 13th of her career, which moves her into a tie for seventh in program history.

Wildcats had three shots in the second half and restricted the Pioneers to two. Sophia Young saved one of the two shots that the Wildcats had on goal. Caitlin Gallagher led the match for the Pios with three shots, Sponsel had two of the five shots for the 'Cats.

Reimer faced just one shot on goal and saved it. She has four shutouts this season, which increases her career total to 19, which is a program record. This was her 26th win, which is second in program history.
