'Cats send off four seniors with a 4-0 win

MCMINNVILLE, Ore. – In the final regular season match of the 2021 spring season, the Linfield Wildcats defeated the Lewis & Clark Pioneers, 4-0 at the Linfield Soccer and Lacrosse Complex on a gusty Sunday afternoon.
 
The Wildcats, who honored seniors Natalie Amara, Kristen Burke, Madi Reimer and Michayla Sponsel prior to the match, finish the regular season with a 7-1-0 record in the Northwest Conference only schedule.
 
Burke had the first goal for Linfield in the 18th minute on an assist by Maddie Serafini. The senior from Wilsonville, Oregon, native finishes her career with 43 points, which is 11th in program history. Her 17 career goals are tied for 10th.
 
Izzy Chauls scored the scored for the Wildcats on assists by Amara and Erika Olivera-Gutierrez. This was the first career goal for Chauls.
 
Amara has 11 assists in her career, which is ninth in program history. She has appeared in 63 matches over her career and had five goals. The senior from Santa Clarita, California, was a two-time all Northwest Conference selection.
 
Sponsel had an assist on the third goal of the match, which came off the leg of Jalissa Somers, her first career goal as well.

The Wildcats fourth goal of the match came from Erika Olivera-Gutierrez, her first of the season. Assisting on the goal was Sponsel, her 14th of her career, which moves her to a tie for sixth in program history. The Portland, Oregon, native played and started every match of her career. 
 
Madi Reimer faced one shot on goal from Sofia Sermarco and saved it for her 20th career shutout, which leads the program. The Sherwood, Oregon, native finishes her career with 160 saves, which is sixth in Linfield Women's Soccer history.  


 
Wildcats had 20 shots on Sunday, including 12 on goal. Sophia Young made eight saves. Kennie Beighle had two shots. Burke led Linfield with five shots and three on goal. Callie Kawaguchi, Chauls and Sponsel had three each as well.
 
Linfield finishes with the best record in the Northwest Conference among schools in Oregon.

Wildcats have one more match left this season, an exhibition match at home against the Western Oregon Wolves on Friday at 4 p.m.
