Willamette shuts out Linfield

SALEM, Ore. – On Wednesday night at Sparks Field, the Linfield Wildcats fell 7-0 to the Willamette Bearcats.
 
Linfield falls to 2-3-0 this season, while Willamette remains undefeated with a record of 4-0-0.
 
Ali Abdul had two of the seven goals for the Bearcats. Ryan Sato scored the first goal of the match in the seventh minute from the penalty stripe, he had two assists and led the team with five shots.
 
The other four goals for Willamette were scored by Simon Kidder, Pierce Gallaway, Josh Schneider and Max Brown. Julian Inches played the first half in goal for the Wildcats, he had six saves, Peyton Frazier entered the match at halftime and stopped two shots.
 
The Wildcats had five shots in the match, Romario Mendoza had two of the shots, both were on goal. Harrison Davis also had a shot on goal. Anthony Richard-Bassett was the Bearcats' netminder for the first half and did not see a shot on goal. Pierluca Carnovale made three saves in the second half.
 
Willamette had 24 shots and had the 6-2 edge in corner kicks. Both teams were even with 16 fouls each.
 
Sophomore Jakob Longbottom made his first career start for Linfield.

Linfield hosts Willamette at the Linfield Soccer and Lacrosse Complex on Sunday following the women's match earlier in the afternoon. Tentative start time for the men's match is 3 p.m.
