NEWBERG, Ore. – With less than three minutes left in the second overtime period,
Seamus Miller delivered the match-winning goal for the Linfield Wildcats over the George Fox Bruins at the Austin Sports Complex on Sunday.
The Wildcats are 2-2-0 in Northwest Conference play and overall. The Bruins are now 1-2-0. Linfield is 1-1-0 in overtime matches this season, this was the first overtime match in 2021 for George Fox. Bruins went 1-2-3 in overtime matches last season.
Linfield leads the all-time head to head series, 31-18-3.
The two teams combined for three shots in the first half, Linfield's
Logan Clizer had one. George Fox's Jeff Friedman had two shots for George Fox, one of them went on goal and was saved by
Peyton Frazier, who had three saves in his college debut.
George Fox played the rest of the match after the 34:13 mark in the first half with 10 men. Luke Hamocon received two yellow cards in the first half.
The best scoring opportunity in the second half for either team came in the 79
th minute when the Bruins were awarded a penalty kick. Friedman took the penalty kick, which was saved by Frazier. A shot by
Shoma Okita in the 88
th minute was off the post.
Linfield had three shots on goal during the first overtime period, Okita had two and Clizer had one, all were saved by Cole Benton, who had seven saves.
In second overtime,
Brian Huynh had a shot that was saved by Benton. Miller was right at the net and kicked in the deflected save to give Linfield its second straight win. Huynh got credited with an assist.
Linfield also won 2-1 in second overtime at George Fox last season,
Malachi Stalberg had the match-winner.
This was the first career goal for Miller, a freshman from Tacoma, Washington.
In the match, Linfield outshot George Fox 20-7. Wildcats had eight shots on goal, Bruins had four.
Friedman led the Bruins with four shots. Kyle Revell had a shot on goal that was credited as a team save.
Okita had five shots for the Wildcats, including two on goal. Huynh also had two shots on goal.
Linfield had the 7-4 edge in corner kicks. The Wildcats committed 14 fouls, the Bruins had 11.
Sunday was the first career start for freshman goalkeeper
Peyton Frazier.
