TACOMA, Wash. – Puget Sound separated with 28 points in the second quarter as the Loggers topped the Linfield women's basketball team, 74-49, to open Northwest Conference play Friday night at Memorial Fieldhouse.
Puget Sound scored 12 second chance points and 36 points off 29 Linfield turnovers. The Loggers got 30 points from the bench and finished with 18 offensive rebounds.
The Logger offensive attack was led by Kennedy Brown and Sophie Nilsson. Brown dropped a game-high 17 points to go with three rebounds, two assists and a steal. She made 7 of 12 from the field and 3 of 7 from three-point range. Nilsson scored 17 points on 7 of 13 shooting to go with three rebounds, two assists and a block. Katie Minnehan led the team with six steals and pulled down four rebounds.
The Wildcats shot 37.8 percent from the field and 26.7 percent from beyond the arc. Freshman forward
Gillyan Landis led the team with 15 points, connecting on 6 of 7 from the field, 1 of 1 from deep and 2 of 2 from the charity stripe. She also had four rebounds and a steal. Junior forward
Alexis Heald just missed double digits with nine points and a team-high six rebounds. Senior guard
Brooke Landis scored eight points while freshman guard
Emma Schmerbach had seven.
