Mitchell, Beard move up on all-time list

SALEM, Ore. – Linfield College's Cody Mitchell and Courtney Beard both achieved lifetime best marks at the West Coast Invitational hosted Saturday by Willamette University at the Charles Bowles Track.

Under sunny skies with temperatures in the high 70s, Mitchell tossed 51 feet, 4¼ inches (15.65 meters) in the shot to capture first place, eclipsing his previous best effort of 49-2¼ set earlier this season. The senior from Bothell, Washington, set his latest personal best during the second round of competition and moved to No. 7 on Linfield's all-time list.

Beard ran 17:21.79 in the 5,000m finishing second overall and climbing up to No. 3 all time at that distance. The senior from Clackamas surpassed her previous best of 17:37.64 run last year.

NCAA indoor pole vault national champion Olivia McDaniel came out on top in her speciality with a mark of 12-10¼ (3.92m). Meg Angier was second with a clearance of 11-10½ (3.62m).

Matt Metcalf tossed the javelin 172-0 (52.42m), good for third place. Dallin Buck had his best leap on his first attempt in the long jump, measuring 21-3¼ (6.48m) to nail down second place.
Keaton Wood continued his preparation for the NCAA Division III Championships in the decathlon by competing in the high jump and 400m. He finished fourth in the high jump, clearing 5-11¼ (1.81m) then ran a personal best of 49.68 to college third in the 400m.
