Logan Roberts wins NWC high jump title

SPOKANE, Wash. – Linfield senior Logan Roberts secured her first Northwest Conference women's high jump title, highlighting the list of top performances by the Wildcats at the two-day Northwest Conference Track and Field Championships, which wrapped up Sunday at Whitworth University's Boppel Track.
 
Aided by Roberts' first-place finish, the Linfield women placed fifth among the nine competing NWC schools. The Wildcat men were seventh overall in the point standings. The George Fox men captured their ninth straight NWC women's team crown while Whitworth claimed the women's team trophy.
 
WOMEN
Roberts' mark of 5 feet, 4¼ inches was a substantial improvement over her previous best mark of 4-11¾.
 
Wildcats freshman Isabella Grutsch was third in the 100-meter hurdles, clocking 14.95 seconds.
 
Natalia Freimuth recorded a personal best in the finals of the 400 hurdles (1:05.56) placing fifth.
 
Linfield's 4x100 relay, comprised of Freimuth, Thompson, Grutsch and Jordan Roberts, turned in a season-best time of 48.48 to sew up fourth place. In the final event of the day, the foursome of Freimuth, Jordan Hayes, Lauren Klopcic and Marley Ells, sprinted new a new season-best time of 4:03.61, to lock up sixth place.
 
In other field events, Baylie Thompson sailed 17-6¾ to earn fifth place in the long jump while fellow freshman Mada Lee went 35-6¾ in the triple jump to claim sixth place. Savannah Filios took ninth place in the shot put (118-6).
 
MEN
Liam Christensen clocked 10.91 in the 100 dash to claim third place and recorded a personal-best time of 21.84 in the 200 dash to place fourth.
 
The field events were led by the season-best effort of newcomer Tyson Morris in the pole vault, who soared 13-10½ to capture fifth place. Freshman James Bethune placed seventh in the triple jump, leaping 42-10¼. A third freshman, Kiyan Vrell, hurled the javelin 180-10 to take seventh place.
 
The men's 4x400 relay, featuring Christensen, Kekai Macabio, Finley Wodke, Luke Niemi, ran a season-best time of 3:22.83, good for fifth place.

The Wildcats return home to host the Linfield Open at 10 a.m. Saturday at Maxwell Field.
