Linfield Open features multitude of new personal- and season-best efforts

McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Linfield athletes achieved a multitude of new season- or personal-bests on Senior Day Saturday at the Linfield Open, the final home event hosted at Maxwell Field for the 2026 season.
 
The meet honored Linfield's 11 graduating senior student-athletes. They included Mason Bowles, Charles Dayton, Klaira Flatt, Durham Huson, Jordan Roberts, Logan Roberts, Ashley Hayes, Jordan Hayes, Kathryn Pearson, Andrew Troeh, and Rocco Velie.
 
MEN
Leading the way for the Linfield men on Saturday was freshman James Bethune, who punched a new personal best of 44 feet, 6 inches in the triple jump, winning the event by over four feet. Teammate Kala Hardie was runner-up with a mark fo 40-5½.  
 
Liam Christensen achieved a runner-up finish in the 200-meter dash, clocking 22.28 seconds. Dayton was fourth in a season-best 22.50.
 
Luke Niemi was runner-up in the 400 dash, turning in a season-best time of 51.43, a fraction of a second ahead of teammate Keka Macabio, who was third with a new personal best time of 51.46.
 
Finley Wodke ran to a third-place showing in the 800 run, clocking 1:58.36.
 
Leading the throwing events was Kiyan Vrell, who tossed the javelin 184 feet, 3 inches to secure second place. Hudson Holzhauer locked up a third-place result in the discus (169-7). Shyson Cachuela went 44-2 in the shot put to place third.
 
In other jumping events, Kris Jakstas turned in a third-place result in the high jump (6-0¾). Bethune was fifth in the long jump, sailing 21-5¼.
 
WOMEN
Top women's results included a first-place finish by Isabella Grutsch in the 100 hurdles (14.95) and a third-place result in the 100 dash (personal best 12.65).
 
Marley Ells won the 400 dash in 1:01.09, Jordan Hayes was second in a season-best 1:02.26 and Lauren Klopcic completed the 1-2-3 Linfield finish with a personal-best result of 1:02.42.
 
Natasha Freimuth placed third in the 400 hurdles in 1:09.43.
 
Paige Kasso enjoyed a fifth-place showing in the 200 dash, crossing the finish line in 26.73 seconds.
 
In the jumping events, Baylie Thompson leapt 17-5¼ to finish as the runner-up in the long jump. Jordan Roberts led a 2-3-4-5 finish in the high jump. Roberts was second with a personal best mark of 4-8¼, Rylee McIntosh placed third, going 4-6¼, Grutch cleared 4-6¼ to take fourth, and Ashley Hayes was fifth at 4-4¼. Sage Cramp cleared 11-7 in the pole vault, taking third place.
 
In the throws, Sophie Hulke achieved her highest finish of the season, taking third place in the discus with a season-best throw of 116-3. Savannah Filios captured fifth place in the hammer with an effort of 132-8. And Haley Bland hurled the javelin 122-11, good for fifth place.

Select Linfield athletes are scheduled to compete in the Oregon Twilight meet Friday at Eugene's storied Hayward Field starting at noon.
